Thinking of Hiring New Employees? Follow These 6 Steps

The process of hiring new team members can certainly be daunting.

The process of hiring new team members can certainly be daunting. However, it’s a necessary part of growth and can also be considered an exciting time for your company. Luckily, there are a few things you can do to get through it without causing much stress.

Below we are going to discuss six steps that you should take when it’s time to hire new employees.

Write a clear job description.

The first step to follow when you are thinking of filling a position is to write a clear job description. This should outline everything from the necessary qualifications to what exactly is expected from the future employee. Doing this early on will prevent underqualified applicants from filling up your inbox. Trust us when we say it’s worth it.

Screen applications.

Screening applicants helps you save time during the hiring process, and there are a few different ways that you can do this. Aside from sorting through the cover letters and resumes, you might think about doing short phone screenings. These allow you to get a simple first impression of each applicant, so you can determine who is worthy of an actual interview.

Host interviews.

After you’ve narrowed down your options, you can then move forward and host your interviews. Before you bring anyone in, make sure you have a list of questions handy so that you know exactly what to ask. You’ll also want to invite any other team leaders or managers that they will be working with closely.

Choose your final applicant.

The next step after completing the interviews is to choose your final applicant. While this can be a tough decision, there are few things to keep in that will make the selection process easier. Some of which include:

– The applicant’s responses during the interview.
– The applicant’s previous experience and skillset.
– The applicant’s long and short-term goals.
– Your gut instinct and first impression.

Put together the necessary paperwork.

Once you have contacted your new employee, you’ll need to start getting all of the necessary paperwork together. This includes a contract and any policies/procedures that they should be aware of before commencing.

Monitor the onboarding process.

Finally, the last step to take after all of the above is to monitor your new worker through the entire onboarding process. In order for them to excel in their new role, they need adequate support. Make sure that they are getting trained correctly and have access to the right materials.

It can also be wise to check in on them regularly to see if they are comfortable and don’t have any questions. At the end of the day, you can’t blame them for a mistake if they haven’t been taught properly.
