Having the right employees and ensuring they have the potential to grow is a critical factor in the success of a business. Finding the right people for the right roles can make or break, and it’s equally important to be able to identify which of your employees has the potential to succeed and develop as your company develops too. As a result, there’s a lot of pressure on HR to ensure that they can understand and assess the potential of employees as well as potential candidates.

It’s difficult to properly assess an employee without knowing them on a deeper level, as their personality is just as important as their skills when it comes to assessing their potential. Luckily, there are ways that HR and managers can understand their employees better to ensure that they can foster the potential of their staff. We’ve rounded up five of the most popular methods that businesses use to judge potential and ensure that the company can thrive.

Pre-Employment Screening Tests

An employment screening test or background check is a test that can be performed on potential candidates during the hiring process. There are lots of different types of pre-employment screening tests, but all of your prospects should be evaluated using the same criteria. They assist you in quantifying the abilities of candidates that are most important to your open position. They also score them on the same scale so you can see who stands out when compared to the competition.

You can start obtaining better insight into your candidates’ profiles by combining several ready-made assessments to get a better understanding of each candidate, their skills, and their personality. This is an important step in assessing the potential of your candidates, as you’ll then have a record of their test results on file should you decide to hire them.

Foster a Strong Company Culture

Company culture refers to the attitudes and behaviors of a company and its employees. It’s important for attracting top talent and is also a big factor in the productivity and performance of employees. With a strong company culture, employees are more likely to show their potential, and it’s much easier for managers to see which employees fit well with the culture and which don’t.

productive employeesUse a Mentor System

Mentor systems involve assigning an experienced employee to mentor new recruits, giving them a better insight into the company and their role. This isn’t just a great way to give new employees the support they need to find their feet, but it also allows the mentor to find out more about the mentee and work out their personality and potential. Through an effective mentor system, a company can ensure that its new recruits get the support they need while also assessing their potential.

Offer Development Courses

Development programs allow employees to gain new skills and ensure that they’re better equipped for their roles or other roles in the organization. Because hiring new staff is an expensive prospect, it makes more sense for companies to invest in the employees they already have by offering development courses. These courses can help employees gain useful professional skills and also offer a chance to judge their potential for future roles within the company.

Provide Team Building and Leadership Exercises

Teamwork and leadership are incredibly important traits for employees to have as most to have as most organizations involve working in teams. As such, most hiring managers will look for evidence of these skills during an interview or screening. Even if an employee doesn’t have these skills, they can still learn them through team building and leadership exercises. These exercises offer a chance for employees to learn more about their own potential and develop their skills to become a more reliable part of the company.
