Headhunters — you’ve heard the term, you’ve listened to the classic jazz-funk album by Herbie Hancock, but what exactly does it mean?

It sounds a bit intimidating at first. For many, it calls to mind the image of predators stalking their prey in the wild, or a sniper taking aim at its victim. While it does require a level of skill, accuracy, specialty, and seeking capability, it’s not as scary as it seems.

This article will walk you through all you need to know about headhunters, and what exactly a headhunter does in the business world.

What is a Headhunter?

A headhunter is an individual who seeks out potential job candidates to fill roles in business positions. They also act as the go-between to the client and the target, helping any negotiations along.

Headhunters, much like talent agents in the acting world, have to be extremely well-versed in their field and know the various assets of various workers, who are looking for jobs, and what positions are open. A company will hire a headhunter because they have some ultra-specific requirements for the roles they need to be filled.

A headhunter also provides many of the services required to onboard someone into a new company, to smooth along the process. They’ll look into the candidate’s job history, personal background, and qualifications. They’ll also prep applicants on how to handle interviews, so you know these applicants will put their best foot forward.

What’s a Sign of a Good Headhunter?

Good headhunters are confident, quick, discreet, and to the point. A good headhunter will do research both into the company and into the candidate, and take their time when it comes to connecting them. Rather than focusing on simply getting the job over with, they’ll focus on getting the job done right.

As stated earlier, good headhunters know the industry. When they contact candidates, they’ll come to them with a knowledge of their skills, and won’t be acquiring new information on the fly.

Headhunters are often hired in last-minute scenarios, and the positions that need to be filled usually aren’t open to the public. The clients contacted by good headhunters are most likely top-notch when it comes to the business world.

As you can see, you’re don’t want to end up with a bad headhunter who rushes the job. Check out Kerry Consulting for a great headhunter. You can even explore the website to learn new information.

Find the Right Fit

A headhunter performs an important function in the business world. Half of the battle of running a successful business is getting the right people involved. However, there are only so many people that even the most connected individuals can know.

A headhunter makes it their job to know the industry, to be on the scene. If you’re looking to fill an advanced position, consider hiring a headhunter today.
