As of next month, Twitch will no longer permit the live streaming of gambling content from unlicensed gaming sites.
The streaming platform announced on Twitter that it will prohibit streamers from broadcasting websites offering slot machines, roulette, and dice games that are not licensed in the United States or other jurisdictions that “provide sufficient consumer protection.”
However, as these rules are being broken, Twitch has decided to expand its ban on sharing links and referral codes to all sites that include slots, roulette, or dice games.
Twitch has previously restricted the use of referral links and promo codes from Roobet and other unlicensed crypto gambling operators.
Websites like Stake.com, Duelbits.com, Rollbit.com, and Roobet.com were named in the platform’s statement as examples of those that will be banned alongside other Roobet alternatives. However, the statement also clarified that sports betting, fantasy sports, and poker websites will still be allowed despite the current rules prohibiting the sharing of links or referral codes.
Twitch also mentioned that it would soon provide more specifics on the update to its gambling policy to ensure everyone is on the same page before the changes go into effect on October 18.
As long as they have a valid license from a state where gambling is legal, many operators should feel comfortable meeting Twitch’s requirements. Stakeholders in the industry are likely to be curious whether or not the platform lists the jurisdictions it considers to have insufficient consumer protection.
