Mullet haircut is one of the hairstyles that every man should try at some point in their life. A mullet haircut is a simple hairstyle that involves trimming the hair at the front to be shorter than the one at the back.

Coming up with a mullet haircut might be challenging if you are doing it by yourself, but with some little help from a skilled professional, you should be able to come up with the perfect mullet. The following are four steps that will help you come up with the perfect mullet haircut.

1. Growing Your Hair

The first and obvious step is allowing your hair to grow because a mullet haircut can only be done on relatively long hair. It is important to work with a decent amount of hair so it is important to be patient as you get your hair to grow.

It is not necessarily that the hair becomes absolutely long, as you can also work with medium-length hair. Medium-length hair actually works best if you are looking forward to getting some wavy mullet.

The reason why it is important to grow your hair is to have a big amount of hair to work with, as you will need to chop off the hair until you come up with the desired length of mullet.

You can also get a short mullet haircut and allow it to grow along with your hair until it reaches your desired length. This is the best option if you want to get an instant mullet because there is no magic to growing long hair faster than its natural speed.

2. Cutting the Hair

This is the most important step in the procedure of getting a mullet haircut. This stage comes right after you have grown your hair to the perfect length.

It is important to get a professional stylist to cut your hair because they always know how to perfectly do it.
It is not recommended that you try doing your mullet haircut by yourself because any slight mistake in cutting your hair will cost you to repeat the whole process of growing your hair.

Growing your hair all over again can be very tiring and not a very friendly thing to do just for that simple mullet haircut. It is, therefore very important that you ensure you get the cutting from experienced personnel to avoid frustrations with the final look.

In order to make sure the stylist understands what you exactly need you should take pictures with you for illustration purposes.

Before you get your mullet haircut, you need to consider factors such as the length of hair you want to be left at both the front and the back. Another factor you need to consider is whether you need the final look to have choppy or faded sides.

What makes a good mullet is balancing the length of hair at the front and that at the back. Choose the perfect length of hair you want at the back, and then use that length to decide on the appropriate matching length for the front and the sides.

Based on your requirements and preferences you can have the sides done in a fade or leave them shaggy for a more blend with the hair at the back.

3. Styling the Mullet Haircut

Styling a mullet haircut is actually simple than it sounds. You only need a comb and your fingers to put your mullet into any style you want.

Most people prefer styling a mullet by pushing the hair at the top backward to create a cute pompadour hairstyle. To come up with this style, you need to use a styling product to keep all the hair in place and add shine for better looks too.

4. Maintaining the Mullet

Now that you have your mullet haircut it is important that you maintain it in order to keep the fresh haircut looks. The process of getting a mullet does not end once you get out of the barbershop.

You will need to visit the barber at least every six weeks to trim any hair that has outgrown your mullet to ensure that it does not grow too strong.

If you have a fade on the sides, you also need to ensure that they are in perfect condition all the time to keep the balance.
