Blackjack is one of the most popular casino games of all time, and over the years, the game’s popularity started a range of myths that people believe in that can increase their winning chances. However, these myths are proven to be not 100% true, especially since this is a game of chance where there are no written rules for specific outcomes.

These myths can heavily impact your strategy, especially when you are calculating the probability odds and winning chances. Most of these myths started as rumors, but due to the popularity of blackjack, they’ve grown into something that people believe in.

Let’s highlight the most common misconceptions and myths that circle around the world of blackjack.

Common Myths About Blackjack

Card Counting Will Guarantee You a Win

Even though card counting has been proven to increase your winning chances, and maximize your odds, it does not guarantee that you’ll win. Casinos nowadays have many regulations that are designed to limit the number of people using card-counting strategies. One of them is using multiple decks in the process making the card-counting process very hard.

So, in order to perform this strategy successfully, you need to be able to memorize a lot of cards in the process just to get a mathematical edge over the casino. Realistically, card counting doesn’t guarantee you a win.

Getting as Close to a score of “21” as Possible

According to mbitcasino blackjack, although the game is also called “the game of 21” most people focus on the wrong thing, which is why they might end up losing most of their hands. The myth that people believe which is getting as close to 21 as possible can be very damaging.

In other words, the goal of blackjack is not to reach a score of 21 but to beat the dealer. When you get 21 or natural blackjack, you are just paid 3:2 odds.

Sometimes, you can get a score of 17 and still beat the dealer. Focusing on beating the dealer instead of getting to 21 can help you improve your strategy and increase your winning chances.

To Win Blackjack, You Need to Be Good at Math

Yes, mathematical skills can bring you many benefits when you play blackjack, but they are not crucial to success.

In fact, players that are good at math do not win more often than regular players.

Blackjack is a simple game that does not require you to be a genius to learn how to play. Mathematical skills are required if you are trying to learn card counting in order to beat the house.

Photographic Memory is Crucial for Learning Card Counting

Math skills are not the only thing required for card counting. You’ll also need to have a good photographic memory, at least that’s what this myth tells us.

This is not true. The basic concept of card counting doesn’t require you to have a good photographic memory. In fact, the most common strategy of card counting includes adding one (+1) whenever you see a low card between 2 and 6 and subtracting one (-1) when you see a ten-card or an ace.

Always Take the Insurance Bet When You Have a Blackjack

Most experts would agree that taking insurance when you are dealt a blackjack is the worst decision you can make.

When you have two 10-value cards or blackjack, you already have a winning hand, and the dealer needs to have a blackjack.

Since the dealer’s chances are very low, the best option is to skip the insurance and save some money when you win the hand.

Final Words

These are some of the biggest myths that surround the blackjack table, and most of them, if not all, are not true. Blackjack is a game of luck and skills, and there are no written rules to go by. You just have to play the best way that will bring you a mathematical advantage over the dealer.
