How To Find A High-Quality Lawyer For A Serious Case

Always start with recommendations from family, friends and colleagues.

You’ve seen them in the commercials — the attorneys who “will fight for you.” They are your best chance of getting what you deserve in a courtroom. But how do you find one who doesn’t advertise endlessly on TV? It can be difficult to know where to start with all the lawyers available today. There are many different factors that go into choosing a lawyer, and it is important that you choose wisely because this decision could change your life forever.

Ask friends and family for recommendations

Friends and family who have been through a similar situation before can be invaluable, as they will have firsthand knowledge of different lawyers that they would recommend. It’s best to find someone who has actually had a past attorney-managed consultation so you know it was a positive experience and the attorney fulfilled his/her promises. Asking your friends or family members for attorney recommendations is beneficial because these people are going to be supportive of what you want to do and will not steer you in the wrong direction if they think this attorney is good for your case.

Go online

The quickest and easiest way to find a good and experienced criminal attorney is through the internet. Most lawyers have websites that they regularly update with up-to-date information regarding their background and qualifications, so taking the time to go over these sites will tell you whether or not this lawyer would be a good fit for your case. Look up reviews of his/her cases online and see if there are any notable awards or recognitions that he/she has received for past achievements.

The best way to find an attorney who has dealt with your type of situation before is by searching within your area on Google for the exact things that you are looking for like “criminal attorney” or “personal injury attorney.” This search should bring results from only high-quality attorneys in your area. Make sure to read the attorney’s bio and check for any awards or recognitions he/she has received.

Once you feel like you have a few in mind, you can then physically go to their office or call them up directly for a consultation.

Get recommendations from the court

In most cases when someone is going through a case in small claims court, they will want to find an attorney who works with the system and understands the process well enough so he/she may be able to fight on your behalf better than anyone else could. You can talk to one of the people that work at the courthouse and ask them what kinds of attorneys they would recommend if this was a situation they were going through because these individuals deal with cases just like yours every single day. They should know which lawyers are the best fit for your type of situation. Keep in mind that not all court employees are lawyers, so it may be best to ask for tips from the judges who work there or even some of the attorneys who have dealt with cases like yours in the past.

Contact an NGO

There are a lot of people that can’t afford a lawyer but their case is serious enough for them to get one. A non-governmental organization (NGO) can help with this by finding lawyers who will work on their cases pro bono if they are truly in need of representation. These NGOs have connections within the legal community and should be able to point you in the right direction or at least give you a place to start your search.

Furthermore, organizations like ACLU, Equal Justice Society, and Innocence Project are all groups of high-quality, experienced lawyers who work on serious cases all the time. By contacting one of these organizations you may be able to get free or reduced-cost legal services if you qualify.

Watch trials

Many times, court proceedings may be streamed live online so that family members of people involved in the case can watch it from home. This could be another way for you to find out more information about an attorney before meeting him/her. You might also want to look into whether or not there are any apps available that connect people with good attorneys, as many services are being tailored to people’s busy lifestyles.

If you’re looking for a high-quality lawyer to represent you in court, there are plenty of ways to find one. One way would be just doing your research online by reading reviews and checking out their website. You can also talk with friends or family members who have had experience with lawyers before or ask the people at your local courthouse what they recommend if this was something they were going through themselves. The best thing to do is contact an NGO that specializes in finding pro bono attorneys for those who need representation but cannot afford it on their own due to financial limitations. These organizations will work hard to help you find someone qualified who has dealt with cases like yours before so that you know that he/she can handle whatever comes up during trial proceedings without a problem. Another great idea is to watch a few trials live or on replay so that you can get a better idea of how court proceedings go and which lawyers know what they are doing.
