How to Protect Yourself from Spam with a Temporary Phone Number

Just a couple of years ago, an email address was enough to register for various services on the Internet. But today many companies are introducing a new way to identify themselves, which will allow them to get rid of bots and fraudsters. That is why in most popular applications and platforms, registration takes place mainly by phone number.

But many users did not like it, and this is not surprising. Not all databases have a sufficient level of protection and your phone number can end up in the hands of spammers or worse – intruders. But even if we exclude all possible ways to cheat via a mobile number, the majority of marketplaces and applications can use the phone number you specified to promote products and services, and other spam calls. The phone can get into such an “advertising” contact database quite legally, when the user puts an application on his phone and agrees to the processing of personal data.

Over the past year, the number of spam calls worldwide has increased by 73%, according to statistics from a digital phone secretary from a major American company.

Temporary phone number to protect against spam

To partially protect yourself from spam and scammers, you can use temporary phone numbers for online registrations. Basically, you get the same functions as a regular phone number, only you don’t need a SIM card to use it, and it has a limited lifetime.

For example, the SMS-man platform provides this capability. This service was developed to provide users with anonymous registration on websites, applications and services. The SMS-man platform gives an opportunity to get a unique phone number for a definite period of time which can be used for SMS verification. There are only two plans to choose from: you can pay for a one-time SMS reception to your number or get a long-term lease in order to receive SMS from any website without any limitations. Calling and recording voice messages from these numbers is not possible, they only work for receiving SMS.

To get a temporary phone number, follow the instructions below:

  1. Create a personal account at sms-man.com, confirming your e-mail.
  2. Make a deposit to buy a temporary phone number
  3. Choose the country and type of service where you want to register.
  4. Get the service by clicking the “Buy” button.

With only 4 easy steps you will get totally anonymous phone number which you can use for registrations.

What to do if your personal phone number is caught in a spam database?

If you are already trapped and your phone is attacked by spam, you can perform the following actions to improve your situation.

The most cardinal way of spam protection is a banning of calls from unknown numbers. Such a setting can be set on any smartphone. But this method is suitable for very few people, because there is a possibility to miss a really important call. Also, the phone has the ability to add unwanted numbers to the “black list”. In addition, to combat spam you can put on your phone a special application. The so-called “Call Detectors”, it will tell you what purpose calls from an unknown number (delivery, advertising or other services), and if the number is already entered in the spam database, the message “Probably fraudsters” will appear.
