An undermount bathroom sink does not have rims, so the most important thing is to measure the countertop dimensions. It is much required because the countertop will take the exact shape of the interior of the basin and hide its rim. You will need to make holes on the countertop according to the size and shape of the undermount sink.
Using the tape measure, read out the base cabinet width through the inside from left to right. Write down the measurement on a piece of paper. Interior width measurement instead of the total width is required because the countertop hole should be cut accordingly.
Just subtract half an inch from the width of the base cabinet to get the maximum desired sink width. For instance, if your cabinet is 26.5”, you should buy no more than a 26” wide undermount sink. This is the maximum width limit and you can use a smaller width.
You can get its length simply by finding the distance from the rear to the front of the sink. Also, measure the length of the basin that will help you cut the countertop. Moreover, if the shape of the basin is curvy along the edges, draw the measurement on a piece of paper for precise countertop cutting.
Take the height measurements from the sink front. You need to ensure that its height verifies any structural elements for clearance of the draining system. The height of the sink is important because it may help the user no need to bend while face washing or handwashing.
If the rough drain outlets are already installed, you will want to select the new sink with the base if it does not extend past the outlet. The proper height of the basin from the outlet will allow proper draining without any blockage.
The last thing you want to forget is the sink faucet while taking measurements. Without considering faucets and accessories, taking sink measurements is a fool’s game. For under-mount sinks, make sure to allow for room between the sink and the backsplash. This will ensure you can install sink faucets and any other accessories by creating a hole on the countertop.
Whether you are going to measure for an undermount sink replacement or a new sink installation, first think about the countertop. The sink width and depth measurement are thoroughly dependent on the countertop dimensions with required clearances.
