Irvine, Calif. — International law firm Brown Rudnick announced today that Andrew Struve will join as a partner in its Orange County, CA. office. The firm has hired Struve, who previously co-chaired healthcare litigation at Manatt, Phelps & Phillips, to build and lead its own new US health practice.

“Andrew brings to Brown Rudnick a deep understanding and experience in an area of the economy where we see tremendous opportunity,” said Ron Rus, managing partner of Brown Rudnick’s Orange County office. “We are delighted to have him on board.”

With 18 years of experience in complex commercial litigation and unfair competition actions in healthcare, Struve’s work includes class action, federal and state qui tam and antitrust, managed care contracting suits and earnout disputes. He has also handled intellectual property disputes, bad faith claims and payment disputes, fraud cases including RICO actions, and non-dispute work, including serving as national governance, regulatory and compliance counsel for large corporate clients.

Struve said he believes Brown Rudnick offers a uniquely valuable combination of capabilities and client relationships for health litigation.

“The firm’s on an exciting trajectory,” he said. “It has a terrific reputation and impressive competencies in areas that are among the most relevant for my clients right now, like restructuring, distressed debt, M&A and private equity. Combining our strengths, we can offer our clients extraordinary holistic counsel in a very chaotic market.”

Over the past several years, the healthcare industry has experienced remarkable market disruption stemming from policy changes in Washington and the rise of personal and commercial medical technology. As the market evolves, it continues to attract investments from middle market private equity, a segment where Brown Rudnick has a significant foothold.

“The mid-cap markets continue to show interest in health as an opportunity to drive profit potential through innovations designed to improve patient experience,” said Brown Rudnick CEO Joseph F. Ryan. “Andrew’s deep knowledge of the health landscape is tremendously valuable to our clients and to the firm.”

“It’s an exciting time to be in health law,” said Struve. “We are in a position to help our clients unlock incredible opportunities that are not only profitable, but will dramatically improve patient access to effective medicine.”
