Breaking News: Businesses Increasingly Using PPA’s to Power a Greener Future

Are you looking for a green solution to your energy output but aren’t sure whether it’s a viable option? Take the successes of these huge global brands as inspiration to make that transition to sustainable energy, and with the latest PPA news from PEXAPARK.

(PPA is a Power Purchase Agreement, a long-term agreement between a renewable developer and a consumer for the purchase of energy.)

Google

Over the last few years, Google has become increasingly known for its green initiatives. In 2019 alone, the digital goliath secured a PPA purchase of 1.6GW in global renewable energy (totaling around 5.5GW for their renewable energy portfolio).

It may shock some people, but with a dedication to seeking out natural solutions in favor of artificial intelligence for gad and oil research, Google has managed to maintain its upward momentum while applying sustainability.

What’s more, they’ve set a lofty goal of being totally carbon-free when it comes to their energy usage by the year 2030. As one of the shining examples of how corporate sustainability can be cost-effective as well, Google has set the bar for businesses to match and is only exceeded by one other corporation.

Amazon

Google is only beaten by Amazon, which is the largest corporate Power Purchase Agreements holder in the world, boasting over 8,000 megawatts of renewable energy, with far-reaching energy resource locations in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, and Spain to name but a few.

These huge PPA deals have helped to power the global giants’ web services, data centres, and market stores worldwide. For clean energy that’s feeding greener corporate practices, Amazon remains on top of the eco-friendly mountain.

In fact, Jeff Bezos (Founder and CEO of Amazon) has publicly pledged to aim for net-zero carbon emissions by the year 2040, and an aim to power all of Amazon with sustainably sourced energy by -2030 respectively.

Meta (Facebook)

Meta, or Facebook as it was formerly known, has continued to take steps toward a fully-sustainable future with over 5800 megawatts achieved through corporate PPA installations. With a dedication to reaching net-zero emissions by the year 2030, the company has not only focused on the Power Purchase Agreements but also aimed to make energy-conscious data centres.

Due to the unique nature of Meta’s platforms, and the kinds of advertisements the company has put out (climate change sceptics in particular), their commitment to net-zero emissions has been met with some raised eyebrows. However, with PPA powering plenty of their everyday workings, positive steps toward a greener future have definitely been made.

AT&T

Considering how much telecommunications companies are affected by adverse weather and natural disasters, it was only a matter of time before they embraced sustainability. Telecommunications giant At&T made a PPA with over 2800 megawatts of natural energy resource installations.

While every business has its reasons for moving into greener energy pastures, customer service was one of the main deciding factors for At&T, proving that sustainable energy offers long-term resilience as well as an environmentally friendly future.

PPA purchases and a goal to achieve net-zero status by 2035 show a willingness to be a part of the solution, but it remains to be seen how these goals from AT&T will pan out.
