5 Things to Consider When Buying a Moissanite Ring

If you’re looking for the perfect gift for your significant other, a moissanite ring may be an attractive option — but there are a few things to look out for before you make your purchase. Here are five things to consider when buying Moissanite engagement rings online or in store.

Cut

In case you didn’t know, moissanites are the newer type of gems. While they are called ‘moissanites’, they actually have no connection with Nobel Prize-winning scientist who discovered them. However, these gems were named in his honor since he was the first person to figure out that these diamonds were man-made. These rings are like diamonds in many ways but can be differentiated by certain attributes. All ways look out for the cut grade when buying a moissanite ring. The cut is not graded on a scale as it is with diamonds and other gemstones; instead, it’s graded on the clarity scale.

Color

Moissanites come in any color under the rainbow, and are actually graded on how brilliant their colors are. The brightest colors, those of an AA or AAA grade, will be more expensive than those of a D or E grade, as they have fewer impurities. However, their prices can still range from $150-$200 per carat for this quality of stone. If you’re shopping for a less expensive option on MoissaniteCo.com, but still want it to be vivid and flashy, you may find a lower-quality with no imperfections that has a higher color rating.

Size

Another consideration is the size of the ring. If you’re buying it for yourself, then make sure that it fits on your finger and has the perfect size. If you’re buying it for someone else, measure their finger before making any purchase. Moissanites come in different sizes, so don’t be afraid to ask the jeweler about this when you go shopping. You want something that’s comfortable for them!

Setting type

The most common settings for moissanite rings are bezel, prong, and channel. Depending on the setting type, the width of the band can vary. For example, in order to set a in a prong setting, the ring needs to be wide enough so that the prongs can extend outward past the edges of the stone. Since moissanites are much smaller than diamonds, they will fit better in channel settings.
