US-Based Trainer George Weaver Bidding for Royal Ascot Glory

George Weaver is a Flat trainer who has had success across the United States in major graded races. He is now bidding to win one of the leading spring races at Royal Ascot with his talented filly Crimson Advocate.

The three-year-old has an entry in the King Charles III Stakes on day one of this year’s royal meeting at Ascot Racecourse in England. She will be bidding to become the first American-trained horse to win that race since Lady Aurelia prevailed for Wesley Ward in 2017.

Weaver Has a Lot of Confidence in His Filly

Crimson Advocate goes into the King Charles III Stakes as one of the least experienced runners in the field, as she has featured just four times in his career. She is +1600 in the Royal Ascot 2024 betting to justify the confidence shown in her by her trainer by winning the day one contest.

As the horse racing results show, Crimson Advocate finished sixth of 12 runners on her last appearance. It came in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint at the 2023 Breeders’ Cup meeting at Santa Anita in California. She led the field most of that race but just weakened inside the final furlong.

The sprinter is set to make her first start of 2024 at Royal Ascot. Weaver will have done plenty of work with her leading into the race, so she should be fully fit as she bids for her first Group One success of her career.

Queen Mary Triumph in 2023

One of Crimson Advocate’s two career victories, so far, came at Royal Ascot in 2023. On just her third appearance, she won the Queen Mary Stakes, scoring by a nose in a tight finish to the Group Two contest.

Under the hands of her regular rider John Velazquez, the American sprinter showed an impressive turn of foot inside the closing stages of the 5f race. She helped Weaver pick up one of the biggest wins of his career to date.

A return to Royal Ascot for either the King Charles III Stakes or Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes has been on Weaver’s mind ever since his horse won the two-year-old race. He has opted for the former of the two, with the winning 5f distance likely to suit his horse better.

Rivals to Weaver’s Sprinter

Crimson Advocate will be taking on some of the best sprinters in the world in the 2024 King Charles III Stakes. Her leading rival is likely to be Big Evs, the horse who beat her at the Breeders’ Cup last November. The British sprinter goes into the race on the back of success on his seasonal reappearance at York.

Australian mare Asfoora is another international raider set to line up in the day one sprint race. She has already made the trip across to the UK and has had a warm-up run there, finishing fourth in the Group Two Temple Stakes at Haydock. Henry Dwyer’s runner is one of the highest-rated sprinters in the world rankings and, with 19 appearances in her career, she has lots of experience.

The 2024 King Charles III Stakes takes place on June 18, with the final field declared 48 hours before the contest.
