Top 10 Slot Games for Beginners

With the best will in the world, slots aren’t known for their complexity. You don’t need to be a strategist or a psychologist to read into the game.

But you do need to have your wits about you.

Why? Because you could risk both losing and winning money by failing to understand the dynamics of the game. So, if you’re going to play slots do yourself a favour, even before checking out our recommendations below.

Practice.

There are plenty of sites that allow you to play real slot games for free. Take advantage of them, get to know them, so that the top 10 slot games for beginners feel like a step back.

The following list is in alphabetical order, some games are more advanced than others, but you’ll already know that having practised already…

Aztec Gold

An easy one to start with. Aztec Gold is, essentially, a five-wheel fruit machine with 21 pay lines.

It also has an RTP (return to player) of 95%. This means that for every $1 you spend, expect to get $09.50 back.

For reference, it’s always wise to check the RTP of any slot game as they can vary enormously.

Banana Odyssey

Another classic, old-school slot game with five wheels and 10 pay lines. It looks and feels great to play, but its simplicity combined with a fruity whiff of nostalgia make this a great beginner’s game.

It has an RTP of 96.32% which is very good, and there are loads of free spins dotted throughout too.

Book of Dead

Yes, ‘Book of Dead’ not ‘Book of the Dead’ for some reason. Anyway, don’t let that put you off, Book of Dead is one of many games inspired by ancient Egypt and it’s great.

The game is populated by free spins and bonuses and players have the chance to win up to 5,000 times their stake. But you can also play for as little as $0.10 (and as much as $100) so you can hone your skills along the way for very little.

Gates of Olympus

From Egypt to ancient Greece, another popular destination for slot games. Gates of Olympus has six reels and five rows and it somehow feels more spacious than some of the games on this page.

It also features an ‘all symbols pay line’ meaning that you can win with 8 or more winning symbols anywhere on the reels. But maybe the best touch is the Ante Bet option which increases your bet by one quarter while increasing the chance of hitting a bonus round.

9 Masks of Fire

This might be one of the best games for beginners, after getting used to the fact that there is more to slots than fruit symbols. However, it still feels familiar yet, somehow more dynamic.

Maybe the best bit is that, in addition to being fun to play, it also pays well too. How about 2000 times your stake?

Sizzling Hot

Maybe ‘Sizzlin’ Hot’ would have been a little snappier, but (as we saw with ‘Book of Dead’) don’t let that put you off. This is probably the closest game we can find to something that resembles a classic fruit machine.

It’s dead easy to play -free spins, bonus rounds- but we can’t help feeling we’ve been here before. Still, for traditionalists, this could be slot heaven.

Starburst

For those not in the know, this is a stone-cold classic. Its genius lies in the fact that even seasoned slot players will regularly dive back in, yet it’s also ideal for beginners.

Why, it’s a simple 10-pay line slot with 5 reels and 3 rows game, but it looks so fresh and, frankly, enticing. Free spins, wild reels, and bonuses -plus a few surprises in store- are a cut above the rest and, maybe, the best slot game here.

Star Joker Play’n Go

If you ignored our opening advice about practising for free before you play for real, you’ve one last shot a redemption. Star Joker Play’n Go includes a beginner’s tutorial, which takes you through the entire game, explaining everything along the way -so we don’t have to.

Triple Tigers

Okay, if you thought Sizzling (or Sizzlin’ as we prefer) Hot was archaic, Triple Tigers is virtually pre-historic. This is a three-reel fruity (but with tigers) with one payline, just like Charles Fey’s original ‘Liberty Bell’ of 1895.

Wolf Gold

From Tigers to Wolves, the final entry on the top 10 slot games for beginners is also a very simple addition to the canon. This 5-reel slot, with 3 rows and 25 active pay lines, has a range of jackpots to keep you engaged.

With a chance to win 1000 times your stake, this is a great moment to bid your farewell. And to remind you to take regular breaks when playing.
