The Five States Most Likely To Make Online Gambling Legal Next

We live in a time of change, and different opinions are rising. We see gambling and betting becoming this lucrative industry, and we assume this must be legal everywhere because we see so much commotion about on television, but this is not the case. There are many states where online gambling is still illegal. This legality may be shocking in 2023; some states still outlaw online gambling while they may be open to us poker sites. Unfortunately, progress works slowly, and while some states are opening their doors to the wonders of online gambling, some are seeking to keep the doors closed or delay the inevitable. However, today we will discuss the states with the most political will and push to become the next to open their borders to USA poker sites.

So below are the five states which seem poised to make online gambling online within their borders

Five states are poised to legalize online gambling.

Right now, there are five states where online casinos are legal, and there are seven where online poker is legal, with most of the seven overlapping with the states which legalized online casinos. Some view online poker as something different than online gambling, so gets subjected to a different bracket. So while the number is few, here are the five states with the best potential to legalize online gambling soon.

  • Indiana – With the help of Senator John Ford, the president of the National Council of Legislators from gambling states, Indiana seems poised to discuss online gambling. This senator has also made known that online gambling is a policy priority because he sees the potential in the industry. Like anything in politics, does have hurdles, especially with Indiana’s unusually short legislative session, but as long as the proposal reaches the floor, it has a good potential of becoming law.
  • New York – New York, to many, would be the most common sense place to have legal gambling, but so far, is a no-go zone. It has brought up legalizing online poker in the past, but it never had strong enough headwinds. There, Senator Joseph Addabbo has strongly advocated for online gambling, but most of the online gambling bills have died in the state legislature. Another obstacle is the state constitution which requires topics such as online gambling to ultimately be decided by the voters, which would seem like a good thing, but the state has many anti-gambling coalitions in the state.
  • Mississippi – this state is looking to open the doors to online but has not yet tackled the issues of online gambling. Most advocates see hope in the discussions about sports betting that will lead to conversations about online gambling at the same time. The only issue standing in the way is a law restricting gambling to riverboat casinos in approved areas. They would need to circumvent this law if they were to open the state to online gambling, but there seems to be momentum in figuring out how to do that.
  • Iowa – often, this state goes unrecognized as one of the first states to even bring up the topic of legalizing online poker; even though this did not pass, is open to sports betting. The next apparent progress would be to open the door to online gambling. The state already has casinos within its border; it would only make sense that if people can gamble in person, they should be able to gamble online. Although most are not hopeful this will happen in 2023, there is optimism that the conversation will begin to gain traction over the next couple of years, however, an ongoing scandal and investigation into sports betting could derail that.
  • Kentucky – Finally, the last state with the highest likelihood of legalizing online gambling in Kentucky. would seem like another unlikely state to legalize online gambling, but there currently is a bill filed for sports betting, online poker, and fantasy sports. While this bill has not been spoken about in the legislature yet, if there is already a discussion about legalizing these things, it may only be a matter of time before they speak about online gambling. However, just like the other states mentioned in this list, it has its own hurdles to overcome.

This list has made clear that there is the potential for other states to legalize online gambling, but there are many hurdles in their way. Each state is entirely to decide its own future on online gambling, and many people would be shocked to find out that is not always universally accepted. Nevertheless, online poker is becoming something that is gaining momentum, mainly because so many people play on us poker sites. So playing poker online will benefit them, but not everyone goes to casinos and gambles excessively. Some states view legalizing online poker as a compromise.

Opening the door to online gambling opens up a lot of potential for states to take advantage of, but people need to be aware of these advantages. If they are not, they will keep it on the back burner and force people into other states where it is legal. Either way, with hurdles and obstacles, these states have allies and the oversight to see the potential benefits online gambling can bring. Although some of these states only speak about opening up online poker, it may only be the first domino to fall in a list of dominos to come.
