“It all started when a friend of mine and I, newly released combat soldiers, had the urge to open our own business. The prospect of the ‘American Dream’ was something that really appealed to us. We knew two things: First, we wanted to have a business related to the construction industry, and second, we wanted a business where we could help people and share our love for personal and customer service. From there, Attic Projects was born.”
Q: Of all the businesses to start, why this?
A: Straight from the beginning, we found that the attic and crawl space service industry combines both our love for the construction industry and our passion for helping people and providing exceptional customer service through continuous, direct contact with our clients.
Q: What is it about this type of business that attracted you?
A: Outside of our general interest in construction, we were drawn specifically to the attic and crawl space as we understood that these areas of the home are often overlooked by homeowners but play such a vital role in the comfort and lifestyle of our customers. While remodeling a kitchen may provide a “sexier” end result, we know that the attic and crawl space have a much bigger effect on utility bills, health, and overall quality of life.
Q: Since you started Attic Projects, how has the process or technology changed? What is the future of your business?
A: We started Attic Projects in 2016 with one small branch in San Diego. It took time, hard work, and persistence, all characteristics that we brought from home and from our army training. Today, six and a half years later, we hold a corporate office in San Diego and four growing branches along the west coast in San Diego, Orange County, and two in the Seattle area. Our goal is to open our fifth branch soon.
About a year into our business, Eido Einav, an Israeli Structural engineer, joined us to complete our determined, fighting team. We believe that our current pace of growth is sustainable because we have established a high standard for ourselves at our corporate office.
We are no longer a set of independent branches, individual employees, or subcontractors doing things their own way. We are constantly collecting data and communicating with our teams in order to improve our service, adapt to updated techniques, and set new standards in the attic and crawl space industry.
These high operating standards have carried over to our hiring practices, as well. We don’t outsource hiring to recruiting firms. Our Leadership Team still meets with every new employee that is brought on to ensure they share the same vision, same values and have the necessary personal qualities that will ensure we can work together for a long-term relationship of employment.
Through these hiring practices, we have found team members that have been absolutely vital to our growth. We have team members willing to relocate to start a new branch or help out other branches during slow periods. Instead of keeping things to themselves, our teams always communicate and share their thoughts and techniques with other team members as they have the best interest of the company in mind.
As a result, all of the benefits of our corporate initiatives and the quality of the team members are passed down to the customers. We have an experienced, talented team of the attic and crawl space technicians that understand how to interconnect with the client’s property. They know how to properly remove and install insulation to ensure that the complex wiring in the attic is not affected, how a leaking air duct in the attic can cause poor air quality in the rest of the home, or how simply catching a rodent does not address the root source of the problem. Our company’s Slogan is “Do It Right, Do It Once” because this is the only way we believe a business should be conducted. Our company offers a 10-year warranty on our work because we are so confident in our team’s ability to take care of the problem permanently the first time.
The greatest testament to the quality of our work is the fact that our main source of leads is customer referrals. While some companies spend thousands of dollars on ads, we get calls every day from the family members, friends, and neighbors of our past clients, requesting our services because they have heard such great things about our team and the long-term solutions we provide.
At Attic Projects, we believe that our future in this industry involves continued growth so that we can make our high-quality work and unmatched standards of service accessible to as many people as possible. We have begun partnering with HOAs, property managers, and individual contractors to expand our reach beyond single-family homeowners.
With these partnerships, we can now help renters and multi-family residents who may have limited access to our type of service or provide full-service restoration solutions after the visit of a plumber or electrician. Attic and crawl space issues can affect hundreds of thousands of homes, and many people have no idea that there is something wrong because they actively avoid those areas in their houses. We want to educate these customers and provide them with solutions that will lead to a more comfortable and healthier home.
