Lionheart Health, which sells patented bioelectric stimulation-based organ regeneration healing products, is among the companies vying for the $101M XPRIZE Healthspan, a seven-year global competition. The winner, who will receive $101 million, is required to develop a proactive, accessible therapeutic that restores muscle, cognition, and immune function by a minimum of 10 years, with a goal of 20 years, in people 65-80 years old, in one year or less.
“We believe we have a good chance to win the prize; our patented platform technology based on the convergence of bioelectric controlled protein expressions and bioelectric enhanced biologics featuring klotho is a unique approach at the forefront of our industry,” says Howard Leonhardt, Executive Chairman and CEO of Lionheart Health and parent group Leonhardt Ventures.
“We have products to heal the whole body, essentially from head to toe. Our technology turns back your biological clock, unleashing your body’s potential to extend your health span dramatically. Our products enhance your overall well-being with targeted treatments for hair, skin, sexual health, joints, and your entire body,” he told California Business Journal.
XPRIZE Healthspan is the first health-focused competition of its kind. Its winner will require global collaboration with cross-disciplinary researchers, clinicians, industry leaders, policymakers, trade organizations, and nonprofits to make the outcomes possible and accessible to broader populations. Leonhardt is optimistic that his team and technology are ready for this challenge.
His optimism relies on two major pillars. On the one hand, he is a serialpreneur inventor with over 30 issued patents for organ regeneration, healing, and recovery, including endovascular solutions—and his business manufactures a handful of health products. On the other hand, he plans to open Lionheart Health MedSpas nationwide, which will serve as wellness centers and integrative health and research institutes.

Lionheart Health offers a vast product portfolio. SkinStim™ uses patented signals for stem cell homing, aging reversal, elasticity improvement, collagen rebuilding, and inflammation modulation. HairCell™ Plus Biologics utilizes patented signals and biologics for hair regeneration, including bioelectric-enhanced PRF. OrthoStim™ Plus Biologics uses stem cell homing, klotho protein, follistatin protein, and bioelectric-enhanced PRF for joint health, especially knees, by reducing inflammation. ErectiStim™ by MyoStim ED deploys stem cell homing for muscle and nerve regeneration, new blood vessel growth, and inflammation reduction by patented technology for male sexual health. Last but not least, BodStim™ is the only bioelectric EMS suit with patented signals for klotho and follistatin for building more muscle more quickly and reversing aging. The company has more products in the pipeline, such as Stem Cell Bra™, TestiStim™, B-Alive™ by BladderCell, Second Brain, and PressureStim™.
“Our track record in the field helps build confidence from investors, investment banks, partners, employees, and media,” Leonhardt says. What lies at the heart of that track record? “Our products use specific signals that we have patented. These signals stimulate tissues, particularly muscles, to secrete proteins that help heal your body. The proteins get into the bloodstream and travel across the whole body—our approach to wellness is holistic. Lionheart Health is building the most comprehensive portfolio of products for increasing klotho levels in the industry,” Leonhardt says.
His technology and products focus on boosting klotho levels, which many believe is essential for healing and fighting against body aging. Klotho, recognized as an antiaging gene with pleiotropic functions, produces two molecules: a membrane-bound form and a circulating form. When our cells become active, it can be linked to the development of various long-term health issues related to inflammation, marked by activating a specific factor called NFκB. Klotho works to prevent the activation of NFκB and the production of inflammatory genes.
“If you’re low on klotho, you’re going to have higher levels of chronic inflammation that can lead to many other health issues, such as higher levels of calcification in the arteries in the heart and valves, a higher chance for all types of cancers, particularly skin cancer, a higher chance for early onset of diabetes, a higher chance for early onset of dementia and Alzheimer’s, higher chances for premature hair loss, and a higher chance for sexual health decline. Low levels of klotho increase your chance for depression, anxiety, and addiction,” Leonhardt says.
Increasing klotho levels is essential. “When you’re stressed, your cell homeostasis [the stable and balanced internal environment within a cell] details, cells get degraded, and wrinkles appear on the skin. When we increase klotho levels, though, they boost the integrity and homeostasis of cells—we start looking more youthful and healthy, in addition to ample health benefits for preventing diseases,” the CEO adds.
According to a 2022 study by Jacob K Kresovich and Catherine M Bulka, individuals with reduced circulating klotho levels face a 31% elevated likelihood of mortality before reaching their anticipated median life expectancy. As an innovation leader in regenerative aesthetics and technologies intended to extend healthspan longevity, Lionheart Health has recently announced the provisional patent filing and launch of the development of Klotho Patch™ (for investigational use only as of 2024), which aims to be another choice in the future for those seeking to increase their circulating klotho levels.
“KlothoPatch™is extremely easy to use. Slap it on the outside of any muscle you choose, activate the app and immediately enjoy the beneficial effects. KlothoPatch™ uses electroporation to provide the precise exact bolus of the klotho protein or klotho gene product loaded into mesenchymal stem cells or myoblasts that your doctor has ordered at exactly the right time for delivery as prescribed by your doctor,” Leonhardt concludes.
