Is Sports Betting Finally Legal Within California?

After the California sports betting bill that was announced within the last month of 2020, one could say that they are confused by the legalities that were listed when it came to sports betting and mobile sports betting within the state.

The bill has proposed new developments which have caused reason to have varied opinions on the disadvantages and advantages of such a move forward. The new bill proposes tribal casinos, card gaming rooms, and racetracks-yet the big question here is, what is the difference between casinos and card rooms?

While sports betting has been a bit of a vague concept within the US, Sportsbet operates across the globe, and allows punters to take charge and access their full potential, when it comes to sports betting pursuits. 

So, going back to Tribal casinos, they would get access to sports betting, in addition to casino games such as roulette and other variations, however they will find it difficult to successfully file a lawsuit against the card rooms. Card rooms would not have the access that sports betting would, yet they will have the governments safety to back them up, so that tribal casinos would not lash at them for the card games they are permitted to have.

Casinos have long been arguing the card games that they are permitted to have access to, especially due to the fact that card rooms have pushed the barriers of their gambling services where it is a conflict to casinos ultimately. That they are essentially offering more beyond their means and breaking the rules, to make sure they have more available than casinos; thus, being the better choice over all. This is why, if the proposals extend, it causes card rooms to further their pushing and blank out casinos even further in terms of convenience and relevance within the current legal niche.

Sports betting however is still in turmoil on their full flexibility of what they can offer and cater overall. For example, race tracks may have sportsbooks for their gambling, yet no mobile or horse betting may be granted. The sports betting bill is still to be developed further, within 2021, as many people are not happy and believe that this extension still does not make sense, nor is it effective. 

The PASPA first had their ruling overturned within the month of May 2018, and many states were still unable to participate within sports betting. California was one of those states, so if we consider the progress, there have been some developments, as of course now, it is legal to a degree. 2019 was the biggest step for California within the realms of gambling, as they were permitted with their first hearing, which slowly blossomed to the multiple betting opportunities that are available to seek out on the market today.

January 2020, was where sports betting was properly discussed by the senate, and they all assembled to discuss the matter in detail, for the vision of sports betting in the future. California already has such a huge base of amazing sports teams such as baseball i.e. Los Angeles Angels for example, meaning it would be an exceptionally profitable move to allow the legislation to go through. California would have the biggest gambling sports market, if it was permitted and granted-estimated at $2.5 billion per annum.

While these statistics were seen as a huge favour for the move, mobile betting was not seen as necessary within the legislations. This of course still puts California way back in comparison to other gambling opportunities that are available internationally for example. So, while the bill for complete sports betting has yet to be expanded to its max potential, it is a start, right? Just many are aware that online betting is the future, and not mobilising it to its max capacity, will again affect the state’s economy, as many gamblers gamble, but offshore, meaning they are missing out on huge tax revenues that could be subjected here. 

New Jersey, Pennsylvania has jumped fully on board with legalising all forms of betting, and already are seeing huge benefits in their favour from the advantageous move forward, into the future. Some say California will buckle from the pressure of all other states moving towards an online gambling future, it is just a case of when?
