Today, we’re going to discuss exactly how to protect your business against threats, both online and off. It’s an all-encompassing job being the owner of a small business, but you can’t let your guard down, no matter how busy you may be. Here are 4 tips for keeping your business safe.

1. Watch Your Image

You have to assume that everyone is paying attention to everything you do. One slip up with your public image and you could be looking at legal fallout. To combat this, make sure that you and everyone at the company understand what it means to represent your brand.

If your brand is strong, you can always distance it from the actions of a single employee.

2. Written Agreements

Young entrepreneurs often fall into the trap of trusting the of other parties. It’s a positive quality to be trusting, but you have to think about the safety of your business. It’s never in your best interest to take someone’s word, you should just get it in writing instead.

Anytime that you start a with someone, be it an internet provider or a new business partner, make sure to have a contract drawn up. In the event of some dispute, you can then refer to the contract and remain protected.

3. Have a Great Legal Team

If someone decides to go after you for one reason or another, it’s important that you have a good, competent legal team in place. Your attorneys will be able to advise you in all legal matters and help you prevent any missteps.

Try to find an attorney that specializes in legal matters within your field and ensure that they have an understanding of local laws as well. When your business gets to a certain level, your attorney(s) will be heavily involved in your day-to-day operations.

4. Insurance

Any business, regardless of size or age, should have a quality insurance plan in place. You never know what could happen at the workplace, whether it be an employee having an accident or a natural disaster causing flooding.

Liability insurance, property insurance, workers’ comp insurance, and even captive insurance should all be considered. You don’t want to be caught out when something bad happens because that could spell the end of your company altogether.
