How to Make Your Clothing Stand Out in the Workplace

Don’t Stick to Fashion Rules.

When you are one of billions of people around the world, it is easy to feel as though you just exist within the shadows and are no different to everybody else. For some people, this is completely fine, and they would rather not attract too much attention to themselves. For others, particularly the more extroverted within society, they aim to stand out and be seen wherever they go, including the workplace. These tips are for those who do not want to blend in, but instead make big statements and stick out from the crowd. Just remember to take note of any dress codes!

Find Some Eye-catching Designer Pieces

It is good to have some unique pieces that you are known and recognized for. Particularly if you are into fashion, investing in some high-quality designer pieces can be really worth it in the long run, as these will last a lifetime and will feel really special to you. Alternatively, if you are not wanting to spend too much money on your clothing, having some nice accessories is a great way for you to incorporate some interesting elements into your outfits. For example, check out this collection of  Versace pieces at SSENSE, which can be used to make you look more individual while staying classy and striking. Here you can find Versace belts, lapel pins and even designer wallets.

Sometimes, treating yourself is a great way of rewarding yourself, whether this be for getting a new promotion, reaching a fitness goal or generally just working hard. Have a few items saved for when these occasions come around, so you can keep motivating yourself to reach your goals.

Wear Bold Colors and Patterns

Color is one of the best ways of determining whether your outfit is an ‘introvert’ outfit or an ‘extrovert’ one. Wearing neutral colors such as white, black, beige and denim will allow you to blend in to the crowd, while vibrant ones will make your outfit eye-catching. If you want to be extra bold, think about pairing together multiple bold clothing items, especially those that have interesting patterns on them. Naturally, people’s eyes will be drawn to you and your dramatic color contrasts, which will break the monotony of the neutral, safe options that most people go for.

Wearing something fun can really help lift your mood and make you feel much happier. If you are having a down day, why not wear a happy color like yellow to lift your mood a little? You may not realize it, but for other people, seeing someone in vibrant colors can also be a mood lift too, so it will be beneficial for them too!

Don’t Stick to the Fashion Rules

It can be nerve-wracking to be really expressive with your style when you are constantly seeing things that tell you what you should and shouldn’t do when dressing. It is really important to remember that fashion is entirely subjective, so while you think a certain way of dressing is not your style, someone else might think it looks amazing and vice versa. After all, who are you dressing for, yourself or others? Once you start making your own rules and not necessarily sticking to conventions, you will find it way easier to truly become yourself and stop feeling so trapped by society and its standards. You can even follow international fashion trends as seen on 와우레카.

If you want to pair a spotty shirt with some stripy trousers, go for it! With everybody becoming more and more progressive, a lot of people have moved past the idea of judgement and actually won’t care about what you are wearing. Your confidence will probably inspire them!

If you want to feel really unique, you should try finding second hand clothing from thrift stores or from family members. If the clothes you are wearing aren’t being produced any longer, you will truly be wearing one of a kind and this will make you all the more iconic and interesting looking.

Have Confidence

The most important thing to keep in mind when dressing for yourself is to have confidence and own it. Sometimes you see fashion models walking down a runway in the most ridiculous looking outfits, but their confidence makes them cool and desirable, and you can be the same. People are likely to have more respect for you if they think you are interesting and unique than if you just blend in to the crowd.

Finding what you feel comfortable in is necessary, as you want to feel attractive and wonderful when walking down the street. As long as you feel good about yourself, no one else’s opinion matters. This may take a bit of time and experimentation, but once you know what you enjoy wearing, you will find it so much easier to shop for yourself.
