Here I am, a staunch lover of ‘70s rock, standing on an elegantly designed hotel balcony in West Hollywood, staring at the world-famous Whisky A Go Go, just a few hundred feet away.
Holding a vodka and pineapple drink on the balcony of the exquisite The London West Hollywood at Beverly Hills, I envisioned the ‘70s on the legendary Sunset Strip, hippies lined up on the streets to see The Doors, Jimmy Hendrix, The Who, Neil Young and Steven Stills of Buffalo Springfield, The Byrds, Cream, The Kinks, Led Zeppelin and Janis Joplin.

Squinting in the afternoon sun, I closed my eyes and actually heard Jim Morrison singing Roadhouse Blues, The Who playing Don’t Get Fooled Again and Zeppelin’s Whole Lotta Love.
It was as great as The London West Hollywood itself, hidden on a quaint side street off Sunset Blvd, surrounded by impeccable English landscaping.
The hotel is a secret hideout for Hollywood entertainers such as Samuel L. Jackson, Halle Berry and (of course) Kim Kardashian (yes, she’s just about everywhere), Hollywood producers and screenwriters, actors Rob Lowe and Hugh Grant and John Legend.
Legend, in fact, created a partnership with the hotel with his wine, Legend Vineyard Exclusive Wines (LVE) from France and Napa from late spring to early autumn. The hotel also created a dining experience around Legend’s wine on the hotel’s rooftop with dynamic views of Beverly Hills and the Hollywood Hills.
The Legendary Wine and Dining experience started with croquembouche, French onion soup gratinee and short rib ravioli, paired with LVE Chardonnay Carneros and Cabernet Sauvignon. The main meal featured spicy miso pasta with Manila clams, fried chicken, spicy honey butter and Beef Wellington.
The hotel, meanwhile, combines the sophistication of London with the glamour of Hollywood. The hotel even has a huge screening room where actors, producers, directors, entertainment reporters and financiers watch film.
With 110 plush seats, Dolby surround sound and a huge wall-to-wall screen, the luxurious screening room is the equal of a five-star cinema. The hotel has screened hundreds of films followed by Q&A’s with actors and directors. Those films include:
• Lord of the Rings
• Anora
• The Last Women of The Sea
• Babygirl
• Sing Sing
• Nickel Boy
• Wild Robot
• Conclave
• Agatha
• Martha
• The Last Showgirl
The hotel has 226 suites, including a penthouse that is considered “the villa in the sky,” with a salon, and private rooftop deck with an outdoor kitchen, lounging and dining areas, and a fireplace. (Where do you think Halle Berry, Samuel Jackson and John Legend stayed?)
The penthouse, the largest hotel suite in LA at 11,000 square feet, was designed by Vivienne Westwood, an English fashion designer and businesswoman, largely responsible for bringing modern punk and new wave fashions into the mainstream. Sky Arts ranked her the 4th most influential artist in Britain of the last 50 years.
