Bloomage’s MitoPQQ Fights Against the Effects of Declining of Metabolism

Bloomage is a company known for its hyaluronic acid and bioactive substances. To grow its global presence, it frequently showcases its bioactive solutions, which are used in pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, medical aesthetics, and functional foods at various exhibitions and conventions. Its food-related bioactive materials business focuses on skin beauty, emotional and sleep health, joint health, cognitive health, gastrointestinal protection, eye health, and energy boosting.

IFT Expo 2024 was yet another event where the company made some big reveals. At the show, Bloomage launched MitoPQQ, a new anti-aging ingredient, and presented its latest research on how oral hyaluronic acid can support gastrointestinal health. MitoPQQ was particularly interesting for its ability to combat the effects of declining metabolism due to aging.

Bloomage MitoPQQ: Fighting Aging and Boosting Cognitive Health

Metabolism gradually decreases with age, leading to less efficient breakdown of nutrients and lower energy production. To alleviate aging caused by declining metabolism, Bloomage launched water-soluble MitoPQQ that’s naturally found in a variety of fruits, vegetables, and grains. It accelerates the transformation of longevity factor -NAD+, and promotes the efficient operation of mitochondria, a critical coenzyme for cellular metabolism. MitoPQQ also combats cellular and skin aging, enhances cognitive function, boosts energy, enhancing the capabilities of functional foods as an additive.

Bloomage produces MitoPQQ using its fermentation process, making it non-GMO, non-toxic, and free of harmful byproducts. The product is also certified for GRAS, KOSHER, HALAL, HACCP, and FSMA in the United States.

Presenting the latest research on oral hyaluronic acid

New product launch aside, Bloomage also had some interesting findings on the benefits of oral hyaluronic acid. Dr. Hai Ning Shi, Chief Scientist at Bloomage Health Food Center, discussed how oral hyaluronic acid can support joint lubrication and gut health.

“Hyaluronic acid’s health benefits have been recognized globally for many years, with its effectiveness as a functional food ingredient confirmed by numerous studies,” said Dr. Shi.

As the major component of synovial fluid, hyaluronic acid plays a protective role in shock absorption and lubrication. Additionally, it helps to maintain the health of cartilage. As the hyaluronic acid level naturally declines with age, it can lead to joint pain and complications in mobility. To counter this, Bloomage has developed the UltraHA J sodium hyaluronate specifically formulated to promote joint health. In clinical trials, UltraHA J has been shown to alleviate joint discomfort.

Furthermore, Bloomage partnered with Harvard Medical School to study hyaluronic acid’s impact on gut health in 2018. After four years of research, their study confirmed that oral hyaluronic acid reduces gut inflammation, promotes beneficial gut bacteria growth, and regulates the intestinal barrier. The paper was published in the Gut Microbes journal, which led Bloomage to development UltraHA-GI-001, an advanced food grade hyaluronic acid product formulated to deliver the above benefits.

The rapid growth of the functional food industry

The functional foods sector has been witnessing robust growth, driven by consumer demand for products that offer health benefits beyond basic nutrition. According to Grand View Research, the global functional foods market is projected to reach $275.77 billion by 2025, growing at a CAGR of 7.9% from 2019 to 2025. This expansion is largely due to the increasing awareness of health and wellness among consumers who seek products that enhance their physical and mental well-being.

One of the most dynamic segments within this market is anti-aging. With a growing aging population, the demand for products that can mitigate the effects of aging is on the rise. Grand View Research reports that the global anti-aging products market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 5.4% from 2021 to 2028. Furthermore, Transparency Market Research highlighted that North America is a key market for this sector, driven by increasing awareness, research, and technological advancement. This sets up an emerging opportunity for anti-aging functional food manufacturers.

Food grade raw materials are a critical part of Bloomage’s wide range of bioactive substance solutions portfolio. Its Nutrition and Health Raw Materials Business Division aims to enhance, innovate, and upgrade functional food ingredients to meet evolving consumer demands with cutting-edge solutions.

Recently, the company invested 1 billion RMB (~138 million USD) in a new state-of-the-art health food headquarters. This 21,500 square meter facility will integrate research, production, and sales. Its nine production lines will develop and produce various forms of food materials.
