How To Know If The Quality Of Air In Your Home Is The Best It Can Be

Have you ever taken a deep breath and felt like it just wasn't quite the same as normal? Chances are the air quality in your home isn't up to par.

Part of living the good life means taking care of something as important as the air in your home. Here are 4 tips to make sure the quality of air in your home is the best it can be.

1. Causes Of Bad Indoor Air Quality

Sometimes the issue with poor air quality in your home is nothing you can see or taste. For example, there could be mold growing behind the walls and it has no way of seeping out. Other times, it’s easy to see something like pet dander floating around. This is not always the case, but sometimes you can see your home’s air quality problem before you can actually feel or taste its negative effects.
Other factors that contribute to bad indoor air quality are anything that can be carried by the wind, open flame, or smoke. These things carry particles with them that aren’t good for your lungs, eyes, nose, and throat. They can also contribute to headaches and sickness.

2. Benefits Of Air Filters

If you want to take care of your home, taking care of the quality of air that’s inside it is just as important as making sure no creepy crawlers are making themselves right at home. That’s where air filter systems come into play.

There are different kinds of air filters that work in different ways. It’s important to look into what those differences are when thinking about MPR vs MERV filters, for example. To put it simply, an MPR filter is a High-Efficiency Particulate Arrestance (HEPA) filter with an MPR rating. A MERV filter is a Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value filter. MERV 11 filters are high-efficiency pleated air filters that remove pollen, mold spores, and pet dander from the air passing through the filter. However, they all serve the same function: making your home a safe place to be.

Not only do air filters work to improve your indoor air quality, but they also help make sure that your appliances stay in working order for longer! For example, an air filter can help make sure you don’t have to use your dehumidifier as much in the summertime because it helps keep humidity levels in check.

3. Signs Of Good Air Quality

If you have fresh, clean air blowing in through an open window or clear out the cobwebs in your HVAC system, you can breathe easy knowing that your indoor air quality is on point.

If you have pets, an automatically purifying system will be one of your best investments. And if you’re worried about how your home’s air quality might affect your health, there are plenty of tools out there that can help us with testing for this. When using them, you can conduct real-time monitoring to see exactly what’s in the air and how much is too much.

A sign of good air quality is if your allergies clear up, you find yourself sick less often, and the air is easier to breathe.

4. Tips To Improve Air Quality

Aside from making sure that the filtration system of your home is on point, there are other things you can do to improve the air quality inside your home. For starters, you can add a wall mounted waterfall in your living room.

One easy way to improve air quality is by cleaning up any spills as soon as they happen and opening windows throughout the house. The benefits of fresh air really can’t be overstated, and if you take advantage of those open windows you’ll sleep better at night knowing your air quality is as good as it possibly can be. You could also get rid of any air pollutants by cleaning the inside of your HVAC system.

The less dust and debris that blows around in your house, the easier breathing is going to become. If you’re looking to take a deep dive into the world of air cleaners or humidifiers, start by finding out what kind of HVAC system you have in your home. Knowing this will give you a good foundation for testing and buying new products to improve your indoor air quality.

When it comes down to it, the air quality in your home impacts so many aspects of your life. It can keep you healthy in ways you never thought possible, and it’s one of the equally important things to consider for any well-lived home. Keep your air filter up to date and you’re halfway there. Then, work on keeping your home as clean as possible and take advantage of those fresh-air windows.
