Colorado gastric sleeve prices swing from $4,500 to $17,500 because every quote slices the same surgery differently. One clinic shows only the surgeon's fee. Another folds in the hospital stay, anesthesia, and 90 days of follow-up. Until you label what each figure includes, any statewide "average" is meaningless.
Why the prices stretch so far
Three real quotes pulled on September 2, 2026 show the spread:
- Denver Health lists a self-pay sleeve starting at $11,337 before anesthesia, labs, and a two-night stay.
- HCA HealthONE Denver Center advertises $4,500 for CPT 43775, but hospital, anesthesia, and assistant fees are extra.
- Community Hospital in Grand Junction posts $17,500 that wraps surgeon, facility, anesthesia, and 90-day follow-up into one package.
Same operation, three different slices. Match price models before you rank numbers, and treat every published figure as a starting bid, because even the most inclusive package adds charges for extra nights or an unexpected hernia repair.
The four cost buckets behind any quote
Every gastric sleeve bill funnels into four checkpoints:

- Surgeon and surgical-assistant fees. Confirm the quote covers CPT 43775, whether an assistant is included, whether a robotic approach raises the price, and how many follow-up visits are prepaid.
- Hospital or facility charges. Usually the biggest slice. Identify whether you are looking at a discounted cash price, a negotiated case rate, or the gross list charge. Then pin down the nights included, the cost of each extra night, and whether an ICU stay bills separately.
- Anesthesia. Billed by a separate group under its own tax ID. Ask about network status, the cost per 15-minute unit, and whether the hospital can give one written estimate that combines facility and anesthesia.
- Program, diagnostic, and ancillary costs. Labs, dietitian sessions, sleep studies, pathology, and vitamins trickle in for months. Tag each as mandatory, conditional, or optional, and budget for anything that supports approval or safe recovery.
The one-bundle shortcut
For a concrete benchmark, the Bariatric & Metabolic Center of Colorado posts its pricing online. Its Cost of bariatric surgery in Colorado page, accessed September 2, 2026, lists a $12,250 cash-pay gastric sleeve that already includes anesthesia, hospital stay, and 90 days of after-care, one of the lowest all-inclusive quotes in metro Denver. Use it as a reality check when surgeon-only ads flash numbers near $4,000.
Before you accept any bundle, get written answers on nights included, pre-op testing covered, extras such as pathology or a hernia repair, the follow-up window, what triggers itemized billing, and who pays for a complication transfer.
A worksheet that turns quotes into low, likely, and high numbers
Open a spreadsheet with one row per service and columns for billing group, code, network status, cash price, allowed amount, your responsibility, and the date you checked the price. Then copy the sheet three times:
- Low: remove every test, extra night, or optional visit not yet approved.
- Likely: add the tests your surgeon expects, a year of vitamins, and routine follow-up labs.
- High: include every conditional item, from an extra night to a surprise hernia repair.
Low is the floor, High is the ceiling, and Likely is your budgeting target.
Insurance rules that move the numbers
Colorado's essential-health-benefit rules require every non-grandfathered individual or small-group plan to cover medically necessary bariatric surgery. Coverage still comes with prior authorization, BMI thresholds, supervised weight-management periods, and normal deductibles, so enter your remaining deductible and coinsurance in all three tabs.
Senate Bill 25-048 extends the mandate to most large-group plans for plan years beginning on or after January 1, 2027. If your plan renews in January, a sleeve in December 2026 may be self-pay while the same procedure in February 2027 is covered. Ask HR about your renewal month and network rules now.
Sleeve versus GLP-1 costs
Colorado self-pay bundles land between $11,000 and $18,000 once every bucket is tallied. Semaglutide or tirzepatide lists at $900 to $1,300 a month before insurance. A 2025 JAMA Surgery matched-cohort study found two-year healthcare spending was lower for surgery patients than for GLP-1 users. Multiply the drug's net monthly cost by 36 to 60 months before you compare the two.
Conclusion
Decode every quote into surgeon, facility, anesthesia, and ancillary buckets, record them in Low, Likely, and High tabs, and add the policy dates above. You replace guesswork with numbers you can schedule around.
