When it comes to on-site heat treatment services, there are a few popular options that businesses and industries often choose from. Whether you’re looking for a reliable service to help with your manufacturing process or just curious about what’s out there, we’ve got you covered.

Here are 5 of the most common services that use heat to treat materials.

1. Preheat Weld Treatment

Preheat weld treatment is a process of using controlled heat during the welding of metals. This is done to change the microstructure of the metal to improve how well it will hold together when welded.

Schedule a high-quality heat treatment services company in Axiom HT if this is something that could benefit your company. It’s also often used on metals that are difficult to weld, such as cast iron and high-carbon steel. The controlled heat helps decrease the amount of metal needed to be heated during welding, which can save time and money.

Preheat weld treatment is also used to improve the strength of the weld and the quality of the finished product.

2. Post Weld Heat Treatment

Post-weld heat treatment, or stress relieving, is when controlled heat is applied to a welded joint after the welding is complete. This heat treatment aims to remove any residual stresses present in the metal, which can cause the joint to fail over time.

This process is often used in aerospace and automotive manufacturing industries, where welding is a critical part of the assembly process. In most cases, post-weld heat treatment is performed using an induction heating system, which can quickly and evenly apply the necessary heat to the welded joint.

However, other methods, such as infrared heating, can also be used. Once the desired temperature is reached, the metal is held at that temperature for some time before being cooled. The exact duration and cooling rate will depend on the type of metal being treated. Post-weld heat treatment is essential in ensuring welded joints’ long-term reliability.

3. Thermal Stabilization Heat Treatment

Thermal stabilization heat treatment is a popular on-site heat treatment service for industries.
The process is usually only carried out on stainless steel where the steel has previously been chemically stabilized. The process involves heating the steel to a temperature above the critical temperature of the metal and holding it at that temperature for some time.

This makes the metal more stable and less likely to undergo future phase changes. The process also helps improve the metal’s machinability and increase its corrosion resistance.

4. Hydrogen Bake Out

In short, the hydrogen bake out process gets rid of any hydrogen that might have taken place during welding or has built up over time in an operational pipe, vessel, or structure.

The primary purpose of a bake out is to reduce the risk of future hydrogen embrittlement cracking. When completed correctly, a bakeout can significantly prolong the lifespan of your equipment.

5. Phenolic Coating Cure

A phenolic coating cure is another popular treatment ideal for industries requiring long-term equipment protection.

The coating hardens and bonds to the surface it has been applied to when using heat. When applied, these phenolic resin coatings are tough enough to withstand any abrasion from the product once the curing process completes. The phenolic coating cures by polymerizing the resin, which bonds it to the metal surface and creates a hard, wear-resistant finish.

This on-site heat treatment provides excellent resistance to chemicals, solvents, and high temperatures.

Final Thoughts

When it comes to on-site treatment services, there are a lot of options to choose from. We’ve looked at five popular services that cater to different industries and applications. Now it’s up to you to decide which service fits your needs best.
