The bond between twins often feels like a language of its own, something inherently magnetic, especially in creative fields where imagination and emotional connection reign supreme. For example, in the world of fashion, Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen, as the founders of The Row , the duo have become synonymous with the “quiet luxury” movement, known for their preference for minimalist wardrobes and impeccable tailoring. Today, a new generation of creative twins in the design world is emerging. Chenxin Luo and Chenyi Luo’s work stands out for its balance of sensitivity and imagination. Their artistic practice invites viewers to slow down, notice subtle details, and connect with distinguished emotion which especially bridges the digital and physical worlds with quiet depth and wonder.
Though they are twins, Chenxin and Chenyi are distinct individuals, each with her own creative thinking and personality. Chenxin works across illustration, graphic design, and painting. She has worked at Peter Coffin Studio, collaborating closely with project managers on design execution, and has even co-published books with Coffin himself. Her twin sister, Chenyi, brings a complementary energy. While their individual practices remain unique, they often collaborate under the name GuessWho Studio .
As a duo, they’ve been recognized by the American Art Awards for their project Dollhouse Dreams , a series that has won numerous awards from some of the world’s most respected creative institutions, including the Communication Arts Illustration Annual, iJungle Illustration Awards, American Illustration and American Photography 44 Annual, Posterstellars International Poster Competition, and ICVA International Creative Visual Awards.
Beyond their own studio practice, the twins actively participate in exhibitions. One recent example is Heterotopia | Of Other Places , held at Utopia NYC in 2024. For this show, they presented oil paintings that reflect on various aspects of life and society. Chenxin and Chenyi’s work stood out for its vivid color palette and subtle quality. Their illustrations depict a variety of female figures, each with distinct expressions and gestures that feel dynamic and alive. The exhibition united a diverse group of artists, designers, architects, and technologists to delve into diverse dimensions and unseen realms, challenging norms and perceptions between art and technology.
They also held their solo exhibition Duo-Tale in 2025. The show presented a fantastical journey into twinship and collaborative creation, built by the deeply intertwined lives and artistic practices of twin illustrators Chenyi and Chenxin. Through vivid visuals and finely structured narratives, the duo crafted a fantasy world that blended fairy-tale wonder with emotional realism. Duo-Tale began with the idea of being twins, but grew into a wider exploration of identity, emotion, and how two sisters can create together.
In DivideMagzine , there’s an article praising GuessWho Studio for bringing a fresh and innovative perspective to the fields of illustration and graphic design. When asking about their future plan, they said, “Being a twin is a core part of my identity. It’s a relationship I want to keep exploring in both theme and process. There’s something incredibly powerful about two minds working in sync, while still maintaining their own perspectives. That dynamic often sparks ideas that neither of us would have arrived at alone.”
In the fantasy world of Chenxin and Chenyi Luo, it is vivid but never fragile. As artists and as twins, Chenxin and Chenyi Luo show us that collaboration, when rooted in deep understanding, becomes more its own kind of language than just teamwork.
