Investing in a treadmill is a wise decision to get your fitness needs fulfilled. The cardio equipment provides you an effective workout when you are unable to visit the gym or go for outdoor runs.

You can find treadmills for sale in Toronto at fairly affordable prices providing you all the essential features. However, it is normal to feel confused when buying a treadmill, given a variety of functions and programs in the machine.

You must know how you plan on using the machine. Will you use it regularly? How much do you want to spend on it? What programs would you want to be included? How much space do you have? These are some basic factors that you must consider before buying a treadmill.

After you have identified your needs, you should move on to the next step of evaluating a treadmill based on its features and functions. This article will provide you a better understanding of the factors you must look for when buying a treadmill. So, let’s read more about it.

Treadmill Cost

The amount of money you are willing to spend on a piece of equipment greatly influences your buying decision. Before you buy a treadmill, you must identify your budget. Make sure you have a budget to afford a high-quality treadmill that would last a long while.

A quality treadmill is easy to use, comfortable, and long-lasting. A treadmill that lasts long may cost you at least $1000.

However, a treadmill offering better motors and different workout options may cost you around $1,500 to $3,000. Also, if two or more people will use the machine, then it is better to spend on models priced at $1,500.

Further, you may find some average models priced under $1000. But, bear in mind they may not last a long time, especially for those using it regularly.

If you are on a tight budget, opt for refurbished or slightly used equipment. They are easily available at some stores, selling wholesale used gym equipment. You could also find previous owners selling their equipment at a lesser price.

User-Friendly Functions

Ensure the treadmill you choose has features and functions that are safe and easy to use. Keep in mind the following features:

  • Speed Buttons: There should be prominent buttons that you can press easily while running. It should be easy for you to change incline and speed instantly. It ensures safety during training intervals.
  • Position of Monitor Screen And Shelf: A treadmill having a built-in monitor should be placed at a comfortable eye level. If you have to move your neck up and down to watch the screen, it indicates the incorrect placement of the screen.

However, if you want a treadmill without a screen, then make sure it provides space for you to keep your phone or tablet. It allows you to keep your device in front of you in case you want to watch a TV show or follow a workout. Be sure the shelf is in a stable position to avoid any inconvenience.

  • Easy To Operate: The monitor screen or a simple dashboard having workout functions, such as incline, heart rate, speed, and others should be easy to operate. You should be able to access and change the settings comfortably when running on the machine.

Horsepower

Consider horsepower if there are many users of the machine. You will require more horsepower if a large number of people use the machine.

Also, a strong motor with higher speed impacts the quality of a treadmill and the effectiveness of your workouts. You may look for a motor having a minimum of 1.5 continuous-duty horsepower (CHP). If you will use the machine on a regular basis, it is better to choose 2.5 to 3.0 CHP.

Treadmill’s Belt

The size of the belt may affect your treadmill workout. If you plan on running, the belt should be sized 48 inches long and 18 inches wide. However, if your height is more than six feet, you may require a 52-inch belt for walking and a 54-inch belt for running.

Moreover, make sure the treadmill has a cushioning or shock absorption technology. It will provide you a more real outdoor running feel. The belt should not move about with every footstep you take.

Safety Features

When buying a treadmill, make sure to consider the safety features. The handrails on both sides should be durable and sturdy. They allow you to get on and off the machine safely. Also, it should have an emergency stop clip or cord that is pulled to quick-stop the belt in case of an emergency.
