Steps in Designing the Perfect Brand Logo for your Company

Take things slow and think about what you want before you make a decision so you won’t have any regrets.

Designing a brand logo is not as easy as it sounds. There’s many elements you need to consider and you can’t simply create it overnight. Time, creativity, and effort play a major role.

So in this article, we’re going to discuss a few simple steps to take in designing the perfect brand logo for your company.

Know your why

Creating a small business is tough and you might not have the energy to think about brand logo design. While, you can easily hire someone to do the actual designing for you, the concept for your brand must exclusively come from you. You can’t expect a graphic artist to just whip up a brand logo out of thin air.

So before you start doodling, understand why you need a unique and awesome brand. Let’s put it this way… the perfect brand logo creates recall, reputation, and representation for your products and your company as a whole. It is your seal of approval and excellence. It serves as a promise that whatever item has that logo, has been meticulously created for your valued customers.

Define your company, define your brand

Now that you know why it’s important to take brand designing seriously, it’s now time to define what and who your company is. You probably already have a few things in mind about what your company wants to achieve and what kind of brand image you want to project to your customers. For example, is your brand all about simplicity or sophistication? Is your company planning to serve a specific sector or demographic? All that can be communicated by your brand logo alone.

Remember, your brand logo will be placed in literally everything, including label tags for products, your staff’s uniform, websites, flyers, and more. It should accurately represent your vision. But at the same time, it should also not be overly complicated, too.

Find inspiration

Even the most creative minds find inspiration from nature, other notable works, and basically anything around them. So it’s not wrong for you to look into a few interesting brand logos to find inspiration to make your own. You can even look at your possible competitor’s logo to see what to avoid, regardless of how amazing their logo looks. But remember that finding inspiration is not the same as plagiarism, so don’t ever attempt to make that mistake.

Talk to a designer and communicate your thoughts

At this point,  you’re ready to talk to a professional designer (or your artist friend) to help you design the actual logo. If you’re working with a pro, then they will ask you for a few things like what symbols you may want in it, what your brand name is, and the colors you want to use.

The logo designer will then finetune the design and give a few drafts for you to choose from. Communicate your thoughts clearly and as detailed as possible for you to have a great logo in one go.

Get a second opinion

Once you have a few samples you like, it won’t hurt to ask for others’ opinions on the matter. However, seek the advice of people you trust and who matter to you. Make sure they’re people who will be honest with you and tell you the good, the bad, and the ugly so you can know what to work on.

By following these steps, I hope we’ve made designing the perfect brand logo an easier process for you and your company. Take things slow and think about what you want before you make a decision so you won’t have any regrets. Best of luck.
