Just think about how much energy you spend warming the water in your home. You have to heat up that cold water before it can become hot, and then keep heating it as you use it for showers, laundry, dishes, and more. Even though it gives you comfort, you still have to spend a lot of money on it, which isn’t too good for you. Below are heating hacks on how you can save money on warm water.

Turn The Faucet Off When You’re Not Using It

It may seem like a silly idea at first, but this really does make a difference. If you let the water run constantly while it heats up, that’s even more energy you’ll be wasting. When you’re brushing your teeth, washing your face, using the toilet, or doing anything else that doesn’t really need water with high pressure, just turn it off. Turn off your faucets when they are not in use to save money on warm water.

Tankless Water Heaters Can Be A Great Way To Go

They are a good choice if you want to reduce the amount of money that you spend on heating water. They don’t store any water, which means there is no tank for it to heat up and use energy doing so. When you need hot water, tankless water heaters heat it up very quickly with an electric or gas burner, then send it directly through your pipes without wasting any of that energy.
Even though they cost more than regular storage tank models, the extra expense will be recouped in lower bills fairly quickly because they use far less energy. Tankless water heaters are easy to install yourself, so this is one of the easiest ways to save money on warm water at home.

Use The Dishwasher To Heat Up Water

Another great heating hack on how you can save money on warm water is by using your dishwasher! You know, that dry cycle that everybody hates runs very hot, and it can be used to heat up water. You will have to do all of the preparation ahead of time, but once you’ve got everything set up, this is a great way to use free energy from your dishwasher to warm up lots of water for free.

You will need to have a hose coming from your dishwasher draining into a bucket. The other end of the hose should have some kind of clamp or another way to attach it to the faucet, so you can turn on the water. Make sure you use an outdoor faucet because using this heating hack will make hot water which will produce steam that could potentially damage indoor plumbing, plus it’ll be much more accessible for filling up buckets.

Install A Low-Flow Faucet Aerator

If you want to save money on warm water, a low-flow faucet aerator is a great way to do it. These devices reduce the amount of water that comes out of your tap by as much as 50%, which means you will be using less energy and paying less money on your monthly bill.

Look For Ways To Heat Water With The Sun

If you live in an area where sunlight is plentiful, then solar water heaters are a great way to reduce your bills without giving up on comfort. You can buy or order them online and start saving more money for yourself. It’s one of the best heating hacks to save money on warm water.

The good news is that they can also be used in shady areas, but it simply takes longer for them to heat up the water. Solar water heaters are relatively cheap and easy to maintain, so you can use this heating hack with no problem at all. It may not provide as much hot water as electric or gas models, but it’s still a great way to lower your energy costs, especially if you’re located in an area where sunlight is plentiful year-round.

Close Your Hot Water Tap When You Shower

Leaving the hot water running throughout your shower can waste a lot of energy and cost you a pretty penny every month. By closing the hot tap until you need it, or even better yet turning off the hot water heater altogether, so it never heats up unless someone turns it on, you’ll not only be saving money on warm water but on your heating bill as well.

Throw A Bucket Of Ice Into Your Hot Water Tank

Do you ever find that the first few gallons of hot water are always lukewarm, even with the tap all the way open? This is because of something called “standby heat loss” which has to do with how hot water tanks slowly lose heat over time. If you throw a bucket or two of ice into your tank, they will lower its temperature and save some extra energy too.

It’s not hard to follow these heating hacks on how you can save money on warm water since most of them just require you to think about how much energy you waste every day. If you want to be smart about it, it just requires a little effort on your part. Your wallet will thank you.
