In an era when business education often struggles to keep pace with industry change, Airong Wu has spent more than two decades bridging that gap. From Peking University to global partnerships spanning the U.S. and China, her career traces a rare path—one that fuses education, enterprise, and innovation into a single, results-driven ecosystem.
Reimagining Business Education for Real-World Impact
Ms. Wu’s transformative journey began in 2007 at Peking University HSBC Business School (PHBS), where she served as Assistant Dean and Director of the Executive Development Program (EDP). Frustrated by traditional lecture-driven formats, she pioneered the “Private Equity CEO Advanced Program,” an educational model that combined academic rigor with a peer-learning network spanning the country.
Under her leadership, executives could cross-register for classes, collaborate across industries, and apply lessons directly to their companies. The impact was immediate: over 150 cohorts trained tens of thousands of entrepreneurs, generating more than US $200 million in tuition and partnerships. PHBS Dean and economist Hai Wen praised the initiative as “a model for how business education can truly serve the real economy.”
From Classroom to Industry: A New Model of Learning
When Ms. Wu became Executive Dean of Beijing Zhengdao Business School in 2015, she deepened her reform agenda. Partnering with Renmin University, she established the Case Teaching Center, where students analyzed their own companies under the guidance of luminaries such as Li Yining and Lou Yulie.
This hands-on model blurred the line between learning and leadership. Her flagship “Post-Capital EMBA and Digital Economy Transformation Program” trained more than 170 senior executives, who subsequently launched 30+ industry-academia projects—five of which secured National SME Innovation Fund recognition. 21st Century Business Herald later cited it as a benchmark for “education-industry integration in China.”
Empowering Communities Through Education and Investment
Ms. Wu’s philosophy of “education as empowerment” extends beyond academia. As Executive President of the Beijing Weinan Enterprise Chamber of Commerce, she initiated the “Qin Business Return” program to connect entrepreneurs with their hometown industries. In just 18 months, it drove 12 major projects worth over ¥5 billion (≈ US $700 million), creating 2,000+ jobs in green manufacturing and new energy.
At the same time, she built the Business Association Collaborative Innovation Platform, linking more than 700 companies nationwide to pool capital, technology, and talent. In 2023, it helped 15 member firms partner with regional governments; three projects earned national innovation grants. Her data-driven “Collaborative Efficiency Index” now helps local authorities evaluate industrial cooperation performance.
Leading the Green Transition Through Executive Education
As Honorary Vice President of the China Investment Association’s Ecological Industry Committee, Ms. Wu spearheaded the 2025 Ecological Industry Forum, which convened over 300 leaders to explore carbon-neutral development. The forum produced five major agreements totaling ¥12 billion, including a landmark solar-plus-agriculture project designated a National Green Industry Demonstration Program.
She also introduced a quantitative tool to assess the balance between corporate environmental investment and profitability—now referenced by multiple provincial governments in policy design.
Global Vision: Building Bridges Between China and the World
Ms. Wu’s reach is increasingly international. In May 2025, she reached an agreement in principle with the China-U.S. Business Summit and Han Tian Television to jointly launch the “Sino-U.S. Joint Executive Education Program.” The initiative will send 100 Chinese entrepreneurs to Silicon Valley for immersive innovation training while introducing technology-transfer frameworks from Stanford University and MIT to China.
The Wall Street Journal described it as “a forward-looking model for bilateral cooperation in business education.” Her Sino-Foreign University Entrepreneurs Club, with chapters in Xi’an, Jinan, and other cities, has hosted over 40 cross-border events and helped 30+ companies expand overseas, including two that successfully entered North American supply chains.
Giving Back: Education as a Force for Opportunity
Since 2010, Ms. Wu has helped organize and lead her executive education students in donating more than ¥10 million (≈ US $1.4 million) to Peking University and other institutions, supporting scholarships and program development. In 2020, she co-founded Renmin University’s Zhengdao Public Welfare Scholarship, enabling over 100 low-income students to pursue business studies. Xinhua News Agency profiled her initiatives as part of its “China Education Innovation Cases.”
Recognition and Enduring Influence
Ms. Wu’s achievements have been featured in 21st Century Business Herald, Peking University News, and The Wall Street Journal. She received two consecutive “Excellent Worker” awards from Peking University—an honor rarely achieved—and was named “Ecological Industry Innovation Leader” by the China Investment Association.
