5 Ways To Extinguish A Fire As Soon As It Starts

The best way to save your business from a fire is to prevent it from happening in the first place. Unfortunately, it’s easier said than done. Even if you try your hardest, it’s impossible to eliminate the threat completely.

You should be able to extinguish any fires as soon as they start. If you’re fast, it will prevent your business from burning to the ground. Let’s look at some of the best ways to ensure fires are put out straight away.

1. Regular Maintenance Is Crucial

If you want to extinguish fires within seconds, perform regular maintenance on your fire safety systems. You want the alarms to start ringing immediately, and the sprinklers to spray water over the fire.

The Honeywell CLSS gateway is great because it will keep an eye on everything for you. It alerts you when it suspects something is wrong with the fire system, plus you’ll be reminded when it’s due for an inspection.

2. Powerful Suppression Generators

Stat-X fire suppression generators are great tools to use in enclosed spaces with sensitive equipment. You’ll see them in large server rooms because they’re so effective. It’s non-corrosive and non-toxic, so it doesn’t cause damage.

Once a fire is detected, it will release an agent that’s a lot more powerful than Halon. You won’t need to carry out much maintenance once it’s hooked up to the system, so you’ll forget about them until there is a fire.

3. Lots Of Detectors + Extinguishers

If you run the business from a large building, you’ll need more than a few detectors and extinguishers on hand. Smoke detectors don’t have a nose capable of smelling fires. Small particles in the air need to reach it first.

Professionals say the maximum distance between two detectors should be thirty feet, but it’s better if they’re closer together. If you have fire extinguishers close together, it won’t take long to reach the nearest one.

4. Turning Off The Power Immediately

Once an electrical appliance catches fire, it’s crucial to switch off power as soon as possible. Switch it off at the breaker box instead of hitting the power button if you can. It’s only going to get worse if you don’t.

Make sure everyone knows how to shut the power off safely. It’s possible someone could get electrocuted if they don’t do it correctly. If you suspect something is wrong with equipment or wiring, get it checked right away.

5. Installing Fire Sprinkler System

It’s worth installing a fire sprinkler system if you don’t have one at the moment. You can’t always reach fires before they get too big, but a sprinkler system will be able to cover them in water within seconds.

Some people think all the sprinklers in buildings start going off at the same time. It’s probably because they’ve watched too many movies. The only ones that spray water are the sprinklers closest to the fire.

Extinguish Fires Fast

If you extinguish a fire straight away, it will help save your business. Everything will be destroyed if you let it get out of control.
